Frequently Asked Questions

Permits for the Classic 4-Day Inca Trail are strictly limited by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture to 500 people per day (including guides and porters). We strongly advise booking 4 to 6 months in advance for the dry season (May through September). Alternative treks like Salkantay, Lares, and train tours can be booked with 2 to 4 weeks notice.

We enforce a strict Leave No Trace protocol on all trails. We ban single-use plastic bottles, providing boiling/filtered spring water instead. All waste is sorted and packed out. We use solar-charged LED lanterns, biodegradable camp soaps, and donate to local native Queñua tree reforestation nurseries in the Sacred Valley.

We recommend arriving in Cusco (3,400m / 11,150ft) at least 2 full days before starting any strenuous trek. Drink plenty of water and hot coca leaf tea, avoid heavy meals and alcohol on your first day, and consider an easy walking tour of the Sacred Valley (which sits at a lower altitude of 2,870m) to help your body adapt naturally.

Government regulations state that Inca Trail permits are non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances once issued. For all other treks (Salkantay, Lares, Rainbow Mountain, and train tours), date changes are free up to 21 days prior to departure, and we offer flexible cancellation terms. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance.
